Oversee the inspection process personally
as far as possible
|
|
|
Who could know your car better than you
It is in your best interest to oversee the
entire inspection process so you can point
out issues known to you. Your presence at
the
pre-shipping inspection
stage will be certainly helpful post-shipping
because you would be in a better position
to detect damages that did not exist when
the car was shipped. |
|
|
|
Watch the bill of lading closely |
|
|
Before shipping and once the car has been
shipped to the destination location you
will be required to sign a confirmation
certifying shipment/receipt of the vehicle
and its condition. This is the time where
you will need to watch the fine print. Inspect
the car for damages and document any defect
or damages that may come to your attention. |
|
|
Ask the driver for his signature
as well |
|
|
Depending on your
car shipping
company’s policies, it may be possible to
have the driver sign the bill of lading
as well. This may be a critical step because
the presence of yours and the driver’s signature
will be very important evidence of the documented
condition. This will be an important step
should you need to make a claim for damages. |
|
|
Read the insurance manual -- it
was created for you |
|
|
Depending on who is carrying the liability
for the insurance -- you or the shipping
company -- you should read the provider’s
manual very carefully as it should provide
information about processes, procedures,
exceptions, deductibles, and coverage amounts.
Familiarity with the process will be very
helpful should an eventuality occur. |
