Don’t rely on verbal promises alone
In case a dispute arises it will be much easier to provide a written and signed document as evidence rather than a mere verbal agreement so insist on obtaining everything in writing.
Watch the fine print
Some contracts are so structured that a lot of material is buried in fine print or on the reverse side. These small microscopic fonts can often go unnoticed so carefully read and understand these fine letters as they may bind you to terms you may not otherwise appreciate. Also, some contracts may have additional material overleaf. You may never notice these terms and bind yourself to what is written therein.
Understand everything provided in the contract
Costs, deductibles, damages, claim procedures, pickup and delivery dates, cost to cancel shipment, guarantees, etc. -- all of these should be addressed in the contract so be prepared to read through it with a tooth comb. You wouldn’t want any surprises. Some companies may guarantee to cover a certain amount of rental fee if the delivery date is exceeded by a certain timeframe.
Negotiate clauses when possible
Understand terms set forth for the cancellation fee and request this clause to be waived in case the shipping company fails to do its part (within the agreed upon time frame) in terms of picking
up your vehicle from the origination location. Some companies may agree to waive the clause, others will not.
