Car Shipping FAQ
Read through this page for answers to questions frequently asked about car shipping.
How does Carshipping.org work?
Carshipping.org is a website that helps you find the best price for shipping your vehicle from one location to another. We’ve created a fast and simple process for getting quotes from multiple auto transporters. All you have to do is fill in the following information.
- Dates for shipping the car
- Destination you are shipping from and to
- Make, model and year of your vehicle
Once you submit your information it is sent to our proprietary database of car shippers. This enables you to find the auto transporters that are best suited to transport your vehicle and allows you to find the lowest prices.
What kind of vehicles can be shipped?
We give you access to multiple auto transporters who can ship many different types of vehicles: Cars, trucks, vans and motorcycles are the most common. But there are specialized shippers who can also ship boats, RVs and more.
How far in advance should I schedule the shipping of my vehicle?
Typically, you will want to schedule your shipping about two weeks in advance to reduce the stress of your move, but some auto transporters can pickup your car in as little as 24 hours. Keep in mind an extra fee may be charged for rush service or expedited delivery.
Do car shippers pick my car up at my house or do I take it somewhere?
Many car shippers will offer both service options. They can come to your house and pickup your vehicle then deliver it to your door at the drop-off destination. Or, you can deliver your car to one of their terminals and pick it up at a terminal near your destination location. The terminal service costs less than the door-to-door service.
Will my car be protected if it is damaged in transit?
While we do our best to make sure all the shippers we use do top-notch work, accidents do happen and it is always a good idea to verify the shipper has liability insurance in case your car is damaged while in their care. Also, discuss your auto transport with your auto insurance carrier and find out what damage if any they cover, as well as any specialty coverage they may offer. Most car shipping services offer you insurance. The fee may be included in the rate quote or added later. Pay careful attention to the details.
Will any of my personal items in the car be protected?
Most auto transporters require you to remove all personal items from the car for liability and safety reasons, so personal items are not covered.
Are the shipping dates guaranteed?
Usually, they are not due to the unforeseen variables, such as weather, road closings or accidents that cause traffic delays. But typically the times the transporters provide you are accurate and some service providers may even offer you more specific dates through expedited shipping at a higher cost.
What should I do when I pick up my car at my destination?
Be sure to inspect your vehicle carefully against your pre-delivery checklist. Report any new damages you find to the car to the driver or shipping company and find out their process for filing a claim.
Is there a fee for using Carshipping.org?
No, we offer you a no-obligation rate quote from multiple car shippers, absolutely free.
