Be on the lookout for leaks
Sound simple, right? You will be surprised how many customers forget to take this simple precaution before shipping. Thoroughly check your vehicle for leaks, both visible and hidden. If necessary, you can take the help of an expert to ensure the vehicle is ready for transportation.
Have you been to a car wash lately?
To facilitate the inspection process, clean your car inside-out. For external cleaning, consider visiting your local car wash center. A dirty vehicle reduces the ability to conduct thorough inspections and may result in unnoticed and hidden issues which can cost much more later.
Check if your battery is secure
Shipping a car or for that matter any vehicle can often be a rough ride despite all the precautions taken by shippers. On your part, make sure your car’s battery is secure in the mounting bracket.
Don’t forget the gas tank
Ensure your car has the right amount of fuel. More, and you will create a hazardous condition and possibilities for leakage and damage. Less, and you will still be on the losing end. Strike a balance and make sure the amount of fuel is just right. For some cars a range of one-eighth to one-fourth is good for others it may be less or more. Check your vehicle manufacturer’s guidelines or ask your shipper for their recommendation.
Check for personal belongings
If you are like many drivers and store belongings in your car, be sure to remove them before shipping. Also, if your car or its tires have any external covers please take them off.
Shut off all alarm systems
Disconnect or turn off all alarms and systems to facilitate the transportation of your vehicle. Don’t forget to provide the driver with instructions and remotes that accompanied your alarm systems.
Remove expensive equipment and add-ons
Remove music systems, fancy gadgets, GPS systems, car phones, tracking IDs (such as EZ Pass) before transportation. Remember you are transporting your car, not the accessories you so tastefully added to enhance your luxury. It may also be a good idea to remove radio antennae, if any.
